Oh, if buildings could talk! I was immediately drawn to a photograph by Matt (AKA cultivate) for two different but almost related reasons. Firstly, I'm drawn to the image formally; repeated forms and textures, understated palette and a dry, documentary-type approach to the subject on the part of the photographer.

Secondly, I'm drawn to the image through the subject itself: this is the front of the North Building of the Emily Carr University of Art and Design - the very same building in which I cultivated my own appreciation for repeated forms and textures, understated palettes and a dry, documentary-type approach to the subject on the part of the photographer.

So from Matt, here is the similarly-dryly named Building.

Might be a little early to mention this, so I'll work it in again as April inches along, but the Degree Exhibition 2011 opens on Saturday May 7th, featuring work from over 300 graduate and undergraduate students at the ECUAD campus. Always a fun night, unless you are trying to park a car on Granville Island.
