The Pop In! Volume One - (Glencora Twigg)

We're knocking on doors and taking a look around peoples' homes to see where your neighbours relax, hang out with their pets, and create! It's an invitation to snoop, but we're staying away from their medicine cabinets.

Who's that? Business owner, Twigg and Hottie Boutique and designer for We3

Beverage Offered: Latte

Tell me about where you live.

I live in a home on a cul de sac across from my daughter’s pre school, about 5 blocks away from my business.

What’s your business?

My business is Twigg and Hottie boutique

How would you describe your place?

Open concept, modern with a heritage exterior. Certainly it’s a creative space, I try to be playful, with modern clean lines but them I also really like folk art and decorativeness. I see my space as an expression as myself, I’m also a cancer , so that’s why my home is very important to me.

What do you use your home for?

I cook here and I clean here, I raise my daughter here, and I occasionally find time to use my sewing machine but not very often. I really like to have my friends over and have a good time in my home….oh and I have baths here!

I’ve heard about your bath…

Yes, I have a bath in my bedroom, it’s really nice.

Why did you want to have a bath in your bedroom?

Because bathing is my favourite thing to do…bathing and sleeping are my two favourite things to do and I thought, why the hell not? I just had to put in special drywall around the bath and put a fan in over the bath, so it was to code and make sure it was recessed enough from the carpet.

What  other changes have you made to the house?

The whole place! I actually rebuilt it basically, except for the foundations , so I got to create my own home, which was really fun.

What about this beam? Was it here or did you put it in?

It’s a pre-laminated beam that took 3 people to put in and they almost smashed the houses next door and it looks really cool and they built these cool metal things to accentuate it.

It helps to divide the room a little bit, so it creates a separation from the entrance way and the living room because it’s open concept. It also adds a natural feel. It’s actually more structurally sound than steel as well because it bends, so in an earthquake, we’re going to be safe

What’s your favourite part about where you live?

I have a couple of amazing neighbours that really make it great. Also my daughter’s preschool is literally across the street from my house. I just look across the street for her little head bobbing around when she’s done school, and I know to go and pick her up, so it’s a ridiculously easy thing for a mother.

If you could add anything to your place now, is there anything you would do?

Well I have a long list of things that I still want to do. I would like to glass in my shower, paint the exterior of my home, I need built in shelves in my kids room and beside my fireplace, divide my daughter’s room into 2 rooms, build in storage in the eaves, I need a roof over my back deck, and I need backsplashes in the kitchen and the bathrooms.
