In case you didn't hear yet, what many consider to be the greatest video store in Canada, Videomatica, is set to shut it's doors this summer. And while our mandate is to share mostly happy stories about positive things happening we are also about being celebratory: Videomatica was positively a force in this city and we are happy to celebrate the run they had over the last 28 years. Some of the folks who work there are releasing a comedic web series to commemorate the closing, and we'll be sharing each episode with you, starting with this promo below. It'll almost be like a wake or a celebration of life, but it'll likely be a lot funnier...

The official word:

Videomatica, Western Canada's renowned specialty video store is closing it's doors this summer. Consequently, Red Wheelbarrow., a sketch comedy troupe, which includes the management team of Videomatica, will produce a six episode web mini-series, to commemorate this event. The video-store experience is fast disappearing, and we here are in good position to depict it both authentically, and with an eye to the absurd situations that happen every day. At the moment, Red Wheelbarrow will begin production of the first two episodes from June 17th until June 24th. Principal photography will be finished the Canada Day long weekend, this July 1st.

The series is concerned with the dying days of the video-store, and three rental clerks who treat customers with the same film-nerd elitism that they have come to expect and enjoy. Created by Videomatica's BJ Summers and Joe Balogh, along with their partners Andria Papineau and Dave Ohlin. BJ Summers will star along with other local comedic performers. The others, coming off of CTVNews The Party, will provide the crew, with Andria Papineau directing. The show will feature 2 to 3 minute episodes, in a two camera sitcom format.
