WE ARE VANCVR: Trevor Meier, videographer

Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community. VANCVR.

VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project, inspired by PRTLND.com.

Trevor Meier is one of those annoyingly talented people who is good at pretty much everything. In university he earned a double major in Music and Computer Science. Then he picked up a camera and that went pretty well. And then he picked up a video camera and that went alright too. He's since applied himself to directing and screenwriting, and once in a while he dabbles in design as well. No big deal. Scroll down to see some of his film and photography and to find out why he loves being a creative in Vancouver.

What do you do?

I spend time with people and tell their story.

Most people know me as a filmmaker and photographer. What I really do is get to know people and help them find their story, whether that's on film or on paper. A good portion of that involves travel and cross-cultural experiences, as well as working with domestic film & television productions, non-profits and local Vancouver businesses.

Why do you love being a creative in Vancouver?

Vancouver is ... (ahem) ... awesome!

Vancouver is filled with people who wear ideas like clothing, trying them on and using them in the real world to see how they work. I like how sleepy west-coast coffee entrepreneurs and hipsters on single-speeds can mix with buskers, panhandlers, kids & families and the suits & ties all on the same street. It's a dynamic mix of people who live for a lot of different things. I find that exciting. It drives a sense of creativity in the city that extends beyond art & design and into living.

That, and the forest and ocean are only a short step away.

How would you love to collaborate with other local creatives?

My big thing is story. I like mixing story mojo with other creative disciplines to come up with something awesome & fresh. One example is recently-profiled Dave Delnea and the OnGray project. I helped shape a story and set a colour palette using Dave's amazing visuals. I like projects like that where the skillsets and interests match up, and everyone's pushing their craft while having a good time.

I'm no stranger to larger projects too, so I like to take on bigger challenges when the opportunity presents itself.
