In The Playground for the week of Aug 17-Aug 23rd: Art in the Park, Carnival At Slocan Park, Trail Troupers, Extreme Dinosaurs and the PNE

Art in the Park wraps up this weekend. Enjoy free, family-oriented craft sessions downtown from 10AM-12PM. Thursday's session is at David Lam Park and on Friday it's at Emery Barnes Park. "Activities are oriented towards younger children and generally require a moderate level of parent/caregiver involvement". Register online.

This Friday is also Carnival Day at Slocan Park in East Vancouver including "games, box hockey tournament, slip and slide, BBQ,relays, water games and lots of crafts". 11AM-4PM.

On Saturday, volunteers from the Pacific Spirit Park Youth Committee will be taking families on a free, one hour nature tour. The theme for this month is "Salmon & Streams". Recommended for children under ten with a parent or guardian. Meet at the park entrance at 29th & Imperial. 10-11AM.

This next option comes with a glowing recommendation from my son. Seriously, he can't stop talking about it. It's Extreme Dinosaurs at Science World and how could a kid not love it. Lights, sounds and giant, animatronic dinosaurs. He's probably dreaming about it right now.

And... the Fair at the PNE opens this weekend and this year, kids under 13 get free gate admission! That means more mini doughnuts for everyone! Things get underway on Saturday at 11AM. Be sure to check the Family Theatre Schedule.

Lastly, you may have noticed things have been quite sporadic with The Playground lately. Things have been busy and I haven't been able to give The Playground the attention it needs and deserves. Thankfully, a faithful reader has stepped up and will be taking over the reins starting next week. I couldn't be happier and I look forward to seeing what she brings to the site. Huge thanks to Bob and everyone else at VIA, it's been a fantastic time. Have fun.
