Dogtown Vancouver: Eggroll

August 24, 2011

It’s a new dog once a week! Click here to find out how to get your dog posted if you haven’t sent in your photos yet!

Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Eggroll, Emily M’s pup. Here’s what she had to say about her…

NAME: Eggroll.
BREED: Miniature Dachshund.
HOOD: Commercial Drive.
FAVOURITE SNACK: Dried Beef Liver.
OTHER INFO: It is hard to walk more than a block with Eggroll without getting stopped by a child or another dog who wants to meet her. Eggroll has many friends in the Commercial Drive area, and she loves going to Doxie meet-ups at Trout Lake. We had a big party for Eggroll when she turned one in April. It was attended by many friends, including one who baked a weiner dog-shaped cake! Look for Eggroll at the upcoming Weiner Dog races at Hasting Racetrack in July (where she is not favoured to win)!

If you’re interested in adopting a pet, check out our Happy Tails feature. If you adopted your pet from the SPCA and would like to share your awesome story on Happy Tails, send an email to Rory.Blanchard@novusnow.ca.

The Pop In! Volume Seven – Alessandra Quaglia

August 23, 2011
We’re knocking on doors and taking a look around peoples’ homes to see where your neighbours relax, hang out with their pets, and create! It’s an invitation to snoop, but we’re staying away from their medicine cabinets.  Albert Yee photos.

Our Host: Alessandra Quaglia

Whose that? Owner and Operator of Provence Mediterranean Grill and Provence Marinaside www.provencevancouver.com

Beverage Offered: Vancouver’s finest tap water (very refreshing after a hot bike ride to get there!)

If someone wasn’t able to see your house, how would you describe it to them?

There’s only been one owner before us and they built the home. It’s very different. We went modern but it’s not uncomfortable modern – West Coast Modern.

August 23, 2011

Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!)

Perhaps my shortest post ever – because the photo says enough. From Bill Kwok, here is Hot Dog.

Scene and Heard: Last Week In Music Vol. 66 ft. PART ONE ft Northcote, and Redbird

August 23, 2011
sceneandheard SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver. We interview some of our favourite local artists, post weekly guest playlists comprised of Vancouver artists and ‘Last Week in Music’ highlights some of the concerts happening around the city…

Well this was a busy busy week in music, mostly due to the massive party that was Live At Squamish! But before I left I shot two shots during the week, Northcote at the Biltmore and Redbird at The Railway and you can see them here in Part One of LWIM…Part Two ft. the Live At Squamish shots will be up shortly after this!

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC: Is coming to a hault/going on hiatus as I’ll be traveling to the Peak Performance Project bootcamp! (I’m sure I’ll give you an update or two along the way). AND since Leigh (my wonderful #2) is also going, we won’t be shooting shows this weekend. That said, I KNOW there is a lot of talent out there in BC and if anyone is going to a show, and taking their camera, tweet a photo to @VIAindie and I’ll try and throw them together for next week. Here are the shows I recommend!: Dan Klenner CD release show w/ David Vertesi on Wednesday. Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party at the Biltmore on Thursday. Friday head to the Media Club for Jim Ward w/ Lusitana & Legs ?.

TRUE VANCOUVER STORY #21 – Western Canada’s first funny-friendly city

August 23, 2011

Did you know that Vancouver was home to Western Canada’s first comedy club? It was called Punchlines, and it was in the restaurant in the basement of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Super, Neighbours in British Columbia:
Fairmont and Helijet partner to bring you deals on flights and accommodations

August 23, 2011
A couple of years back we took home the Georgia Straight’s BEST OF award for “Best Navel Gazing Web Site“, and while our non-profit organization that supports our web site (Vancouver Is Awesome, Inc) is focused on celebrating all of the awesome things that make up our city one of those things is it’s proximity to other awesome places. In Super, Neighbours in British Columbia we take you on adventures to other B.C. locales that we think you should check out.

**********

Not long ago I delivered THESE POSTS about a trip to Victoria (my second favourite city in BC) and our stay at The Fairmont Empress. Quite a while before that I brought you THESE POSTS about a separate trip to Victoria care of Helijet. Later this week I’m going to be spending a night at The Fairmont Waterfront here in Vancouver and today I’m delivering you news that has to do with all three!

I arrived at the Vancouver Heliport this morning just in time to witness the General Manager of The Fairmont Empress, Martin Leclerc, step off of a helicopter and share some still-hot tea and still-fresh scones with The Fairmont Waterfront‘s General Manager, Ian Pullan, and Helijet International‘s President and CEO, Danny Sitnam.

They were meeting to celebrate a new partnership between The Fairmont Waterfront, The Fairmont Empress and Helijet which, for you, will amount to up to 15% off Helijet rates for members of the Fairmont President’s Club (which is free to join) along with …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>

START YOUR WEEK RIGHT WITH THE V.I.A. WEEKLY PLAYLIST
WEEK 82: “I’m Siiiiick!” Edition

August 23, 2011
sceneandheard
SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver.

With 26,583+ artists, boasting 122,536+ tracks, the CBC Radio 3 web site is the absolute ultimate authority, and the home, of independent music in Canada. With that massive library along with tools for members (free to join!), we’re taking advantage of what they’ve set up by bringing you a fresh batch of music every week featuring local groups who have tracks (entire albums, even!) on the R3 site.

I’m sick. We’ve all been there…but the good news is I can function enough to create a playlist of songs by some of Vancouver’s best that have to do with being sick, or whose titles/lyrics mention ‘sick’ or ‘doctor’ (etc.) OR are songs I just want to listen to in bed…
So! Keep this in mind the next time you’re sick or it’s raining and snuggle in with some soup and tea and know that…Things Will Get Better!
