Brent Freedman is not your average creative type. It's hard to slot him into any single category,  or even three or four categories. This guy does a bit of everything and then a bit of that other stuff too, and somehow all of it is just plain cool. Scroll down to find out why he likes being a creative in Vancouver, and then check out his super diverse portfolio of music, photography, miniature modelling, etc, etc, etc!

What do you do?

Well, that's not the simplest of questions for me to answer… I'm a jack of all trades, a factotum, a general maker of things. Audio and video production, design, installation, woodworking, miniature modelling – I basically just create as much as I can, trying my hand at something new each time. Right now I am fixing up an old trailer to start a store out of, but who knows what I'll be doing in a few months from now. I suppose it's just the way I was built.

Why do you love being a creative in Vancouver?

I have only recently moved to Vancouver. I grew up in Winnipeg and lived in Montreal while studying Fine Arts at Concordia University. I was drawn to Vancouver not only because of its general beauty, but also because I have a feeling that something is brewing here right now. There are a lot of really inspiring things happening, not only in art and music but also in the food, the shops and the overall culture. I consider myself a well-travelled man and Vancouver seems to be on the verge of something pretty special.

How would you love to collaborate with local creatives?

I have a history of working as a lone soldier, a one man circus – but all I want to do these days is work with other likeminded people. The inherent dialogue and communication that is present in a collaborative work is so much greater than in any project created alone. Being a pliable person with a broad approach to creating, I really enjoy working with artists who have a more focused practice. In the end, its all about meeting the right people and seeing how things develop.

The possibilities are endless.

How can people reach you?

My email address is brentfreedman@gmail.com, or if you see me around town please say hello. And like I said, I am starting a weird shop out of an old trailer, so that sure is something.
