Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!)

I vaguely remember many moons ago stating that photos of public art don't do that much for me in and of themselves unless the photographer can add something to the resulting image. Well, today Philip shares with us a photograph of a mural on First and Nanaimo that many people have likely seen in person - and Phillip certainly adds something to the image in the form of an interesting story. Rather than reinterpret the information that is included with the image on Flickr, I'll let Philip tell you the story in his own words - but first the photo, titled Untouchable.

From Philip on Flickr:

Untouchable

"Audrey by Milan Basic (Hi-Fi Murals)

www.hifimurals.ca/

This mural with the artist's daughter has been a familiar sight for years to those driving along busy East 1st Avenue in Vancouver. A while ago, it was defaced by an unsightly spray-painted anarchy symbol. A QR code was painted over it a few days later.

At first, I thought that the QR code was not much of an improvement until a friend pointed out that it actually leads you back to a photo of the mural as it originally was. How cool is that?! What a great idea. The potential for the use of QR codes can be used in concepts like providing historical info or images for places or things. As long as the QR code isn't gigantic, that is.

Further, I urge you to follow Phillip's links to get even more of the story - only then will you be informed enough to answer this question: how awesome is this?

…and speaking of the Daily Flickr Pickr, its time for some new blood to take the reigns of this column. If you are passionate about photography, writing and most of all Vancouver, send me a Flickrmail (because you are on Fickr, right?) and tell me why you should be the next Daily Flickr Pickr picker!
