Rohit Tandon crafts thoughtful brands and has built a kick-ass design portfolio both on and offline. But in the tradition of great creatives, he has a finger in a few other pies as well—he's also a DJ, a producer and a photographer.
Right after completing the Interaction Design Program, the SFU grad landed a gig at digital marketing powerhouse, Blast Radius. Four years later he took his arsenal of skills to local start-up A Thinking Ape where he serves as Art Director, with an emphasis on mobile products.
In his own words, Rohit is "a beer man, but won't say no to a shot of tequila." Read on to find out why he likes being a creative in Vancouver.
What do you do?
I work mostly as an Art Director / User Experience Designer. On the side I like to dabble in some photography and music.
The fact we get to experience all four seasons is very inspiring. I might go through four different creative phases in a year and that keeps me motivated all year round. There are a lot of creative people in Vancouver, and it's always fun to take on side projects—whether its an experimental video, posters for a local fundraiser, jam session or helping your friend paint his Warhammer 40k units (ok, I did that once).
I say we grab some beers, give ourselves a time frame and do something. I'm all about one-hour projects or a weekend project. Music, design tennis, photo walks, crayons masterpieces, toothpick structures: I'm in!
