WE ARE VANCVR: Jonathan Mentzos, Designer

Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community. VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project.

Vancouver design veteran, Jonathan Mentzos is a partner at local idea studio, Thought Shop Creative. He's a full-service kinda guy, with a background in TV, radio and print media. You've seen his work—the brand identities of Vancouver darlings JJ Bean and Grouse Mountain are just a couple of the feathers in his cap.

Read on to find out why he likes being a creative in Vancouver.

What do you do?

My business card says: I think, I draw and create for a living.

I'm Art Director / partner for an eight-person creative firm, Thought Shop Creative. My duties include running the business side of our shop along with two other partners, and spending a lot of time finding creative solutions for our clients' business needs. I also get to work with some really great people.

Why do you love being a creative in Vancouver?

I love that there is a lot of variety in types of agencies where people can choose to work: from from big international firms to small home grown shops serving local business. On that note, this city has tons of opportunity for individuals to strike out on their own in business as well.

How would you like to collaborate with other local creatives?

I would love more events that create mixing opportunities for the creative community to gather and chat design, or even present creative to a group of peers for a good discussion. Events like this would be great if they included not onlydesigners but also the marketing people who we often end up working for—the ones who hire us, and often have a very creative bent to begin with.

How can people reach you?
