If you head towards YVR and continue westward, you will eventually come across the long sandy shores of Iona Beach.  Sadie and I recently spent a sunny morning climbing piles of driftwood, sinking our feet in the mudflats, running along a jetty and loosing staring contests with Great Blue Herons.

There is over 20 kms of waterfront to explore at Iona Beach.  My favourite part of this treeless park is the 4km man made jetty that stretches out towards the ocean.  You can walk or cycle on the jetty and at the end there is a lookout point that offers great views of the airport.  It's a great spot to watch planes.  Iona Beach also has a reputation for bird watching and star gazing.

Iona Beach is tucked away and the drive is long but it's worth the trip.  Just make your way towards the airport and get onto Grant McConachie Way and turn right on Templeton Street. Follow Templeton Street and it will become Ferguson Road. Follow Ferguson Road to the end and it will lead you directly to the park.
