Vancouver Is Awesome, and we are dedicated to everything that makes it that way.

If you want to read ugly, bad news about this beautiful city of ours, you’re going to have to look to traditional media and other blogs; V.I.A. promotes everything that makes our city awesome, from old to new and everything inbetween. We’re like the human interest piece on the news… only different.

THE BASSMENT, VOLUME THIRTY-SEVEN: TEGAN & SARAH & MORGAN PAGE? + GRIMES + SNAK

The Bassment is a weekly article bringing you coverage of the best in Hip Hop and Electronic music from around Vancouver. Weekly interviews, event coverage, album and concert reviews that show how awesome our city’s electronic and hip hop scene really is.

If you think there is someone or something that needs coverage in this city in regards to the Hip Hop / Electronic community then get in touch with us.

I was emailed this week in regards to the new record from electronic DJ producer Morgan Page which includes a track and a new video with Vancouver/Montreal based Tegan & Sara. The song is produced by Morgan Page and is accompanied by the stylized voices of Tegan & Sara. The song is another example of the progression and amalgamation of many styles of music that have been increasingly converging. Since Postal Service I have personally been hooked on the mixture of electronic beats and indie style lyrics and melodies. Check out the vid and go see Morgan Page with Armin Van Buuren and Steve Angello on April 7th at the VCC.

Another video I have been loving lately is the song “Oblivion” by Vancouver born, Montreal native, Grimes. Grimes, who was born in Vancouver and lived here until 2006, has become an overnight success in some peoples eyes playing sold out shows and even getting nods from image and stylist heavyweights at

Vogue magazine. With 4 releases in 2 years there is obviously no shortage of talent in this young girl’s path. Grimes’ show is one that includes performance, music, dance and video which are all weaved together by the artist born Claire Boucher. Check out the video for “Oblivion”.

The Final video I wanted to share was the new video from Vancouver/Victoria based rapper Snak The Ripper. “Forgotten” is the first release from Snak’s upcoming album White Dynamite and is produced by N-Jin. The video is produced by Simon Shanke.  Check it!

BOOT CAMP CLIK AT FORTUNE APRIL 5TH

When Iron Solomon hit us up about his upcoming appearance in Van, our hip-hop panties dropped at the chance to see him and his notorious headliners.  Since Boot Camp Enta’d the Stage in 1993 with their debut album, they have put out a DEEP collectively of music that now serves as some of the most classic and quintessential Brooklyn hip-hop.  On April 5th at Fortune, Duck Down is coming through to rep with all of Boot Camp’s heavy hitters.  While they have toured extensively on their own, having them all in Vancouver together is unprecedented.  With 20 years of experience rocking stages together you can be assured this is going a dope show.

Rally up YOUR Clik for the show April 5th at fortune, and find out for yourself who got the props.
