Random Act of Awesomeness: Vancouver movie theatres can now apply to sell liquor

The funny thing about this "Random Acts" series that I've started is that most of this stuff is in no way random. It's all very well thought out, involves a ton of legwork, and in some cases even extensive lobbying, like the case of today's Act.

Over the past few months our friends at the Rio Theatre on Broadway have been lobbying for theatres in BC (specifically their theatre, but of course others would benefit) to be able to sell liquor. A subject we don't often parse on the blog is that of some of the outdated liquor laws that affect our city, but when we talked with Mayor Gregor last week during our #GregorLive session we touched on it briefly.

Today's "Random" Act is one on the part of the B.C. Government. In large part due to pressure from the Rio and company, as well as Gregor and Vancouver city council, the provincial government has introduced some legislative changes that'll make it a lot easier for movie theatres to offer you a beer in the future. That is awesome.

HERE is the full story as it appeared on Business In Vancouver's site today.

Perhaps Vancouver Craft Beer Week and the Rio Theatre now have a future opportunity to discuss? Who knows what the future holds for lovers of barley and hops in this city?
