Meet Paul Belen. If you've been around the Vancouver music community for any amount of time, you might also know him as Paul Skratch, or maybe Pluskratch. Paul is a former Technics DMC Vancouver champ and a member of the No Luck Club. His music career has meant lots of self promotion—press packs, websites, posters—and eventually, all that design dabbling lead to a completely different career path. Now he spends more time in front of a computer than a turntable, running his one-man design studio, Almighty Creative. He's currently studying at VFS to refine his craft in storytelling and design.

Read on to find out why he likes being a creative in Vancouver.

What do you do?

Nowadays, I'm a self employed freelance designer at Almighty Creative. I'm working on projects ranging from sound design for online games and comic books, to branding for musicians and lifestyle brands. While being a creative I am also a stay-at-home dad, which is the source for my exercise. My main day to day project is working on Dead Reckoning Military Surplus as the creative director and brand strategiest. On the side I also organize and curate Skratcher. Skratcher was formed to allow people to explore the art and beauty of turntablism as a community.

Why do love being a creative in Vancouver?

I love being a creative in Vancouver because of the abundance of inspirational sources— from other designers ot the natural landscape and scenery.

How would you like to collaborate with other creatives in Vancouver?

I would like to collaborate with other designers by throwing my personality into the mix. Scoring for short films or capturing lifestyles on camera would be an ideal collabo.
