The Village on False Creek Welcome to In The Village on False Creek, a unique project inspired by Live@YVR and 365 Days of Dining. Over the coming months it's my mission to draw from the myriad of things that make this new community awesome in order to bring you a weekly scoop.

A couple of days ago when I launched this new feature I PROMISED that my next weekly post would be all about the building that we moved into, so today I must apologize for two reasons. 1) This "weekly" column might bleed over and be a couple of times a week because there's just so much going on that I want to tell you about and 2) I'm not showing you our building just yet because there are two other very awesome things I need to share.

So first, last week - actually before we moved in - Bayshore Home Health Vancouver put on the second volume of their Before They Were Grandparents storytelling event at the Village's Creekside Community Centre. Essentially Bayshore curates a group of interesting seniors to come in and share stories about their lives, bridging a gap between generations and giving the speakers an opportunity to share with everyone the rich history they've lived. Made, even. The theme of this second edition was "Sport" and they brought in locals with a history and passion for sport including Arnie Hallgren (British Columbia’s first Major League Baseball Player), Dan Cumming (Marathon runner, writer and blogger), Barry and Louise Soper (Champion Ice Dancers) and Cindy Crapper (Former javelin thrower, Olympic Torch Bearer leader of Vancouver’s Sport for Life and Active for Life programs).

Hosting the event was the one and only Red Robinson! They're working on a video of the event right now so hopefully I'll be able to share all of the stories with you in the coming days.

The second thing I want to tell you about is on the opposite side of the age spectrum: Vancouver Youth Week 2012! Tomorrow (Saturday, May 5th) from 11:30AM until 5PM there's a ton of programming going on at Creekside including breakdancing, bands, basketball, .

And if you've made it this far then you'll be keen to know that if you stop by the Vancouver Youth Week info booth at Creekside you'll be given an admission voucher to Science World at Telus World of Science! Get to the booth between 2 pm and 4 pm to get access until 6 pm. FREE! More info HERE.
