THE BASSMENT, VOLUME FORTY: HIP-HOP SHOWCASE + MUSIC BC WORKSHOP + PACIFIC PRESSURE MIXTAPE + EVIL EBENEZER VIDEO

The Bassment is a weekly article bringing you coverage of the best in Hip Hop and Electronic music from around Vancouver.

The Bassment is a weekly article bringing you coverage of the best in Hip Hop and Electronic music from around Vancouver. Weekly interviews, event coverage, album and concert reviews that show how awesome our city's electronic and hip hop scene really is.If you think there is someone or something that needs coverage in this city in regards to the Hip Hop / Electronic community then get in touch with us.

A while back we got the heads up from Kyle Kraft about an upcoming showcase coming up at Fortune Sound Club featuring a pretty deep bill of local hip-hop talent.  With SonReal,Evil Ebenezer, Snak the Ripper, Def3, Cityreal and Sweatshop Union all slated to play short (15 minute) sets, the format of the event alone was intriguing enough to spark interest.  A big old dirty (FREE) show from a load of Vancouver's top rappers downtown on a Saturday night?  It all seemed atypical for such an event and sure enough there was more going on beyond just a too-dope-to-be-free hip-hop show.

While the Raps will be spat at 8pm (sharp) Saturday night at Fortune, the event is really built around a Music BC industry workshop earlier that day.  Kraft arranged for Rhymesayers Entertainment GM & Atmosphere's tour manager Jason 'J-Bird' Cook to speak earlier in the afternoon at Music BC's event to share his experience in the music industry.  This edition of Music BC's 'Career Development Series' is specifically about touring, and with a deep list of speakers should cover a breadth of topics.  From bookings and contracts to tour management specific mobile apps, the workshop should prove to be a career development opportunity for nearly all artists and industry heads alike.

The 2 events tomorrow work perfectly in conjunction with one another as a channel for Vancouver Hip-hop artists to gain some exposure to and wisdom from J-Bird.  Props to Music BC and Krafty entertainment for putting this whole thing together, and breaking the perceived barrier that purportedly surrounds Vancouver's hip-hop scene.  Touring to some degree is clearly key to a successful music career in Vancouver so anybody dealing with a career in music should come check the workshop from 1-4 pm @ 929 Granville on the 3rd floor of Tom Lee Music Hall.

The 'Pacific Pressure' mixtape was released last week by Vancouver production squad 'Team Heartbreak' which is featuring a load of good western Canadian Hip-Hop and backing a super good cause. Hosted by Red1 and boasting to be the 'first Canadian West Coast Mixtape' the release features Tracks by Snak The Ripper, Evil Ebenezer, CityReal, Heatwave and others. The mixtape is up as a free download with the option to donate to Vancouver based Battered Womens Support Services.  Obviously this is a great cause, as everyone loves downloading free music and violence against girls and women is one of the shittiest things ever, so it seems like the least you can do is give the mixtape a listen and download it on a few of your friends' computers also.

Featured in both of the above posts, Evil Ebenezer dropped a video last week as well.  Half Bird Half Man is the first release leading up to his May 15th 'Penguin EP' release on Camobear records. Check him out at the showcase on Saturday at Fortune!
