GUESS WHO?!

Yes, it is I, Christine, your friendly neighbourhood indie music editor...taking a break from the dark and boozy nights at Vancouver's music venues to get some fresh air and exercise...

...and eat some awesome food

...and see some awesome sites

...and stay in some awesome places

...and meet some amazing people

Yep, I'm taking you with me on a visual journey up British Columbia's Sunshine Coast! A place that I have had on my to-visit-list for the four years I've been here as I've heard only wonderful things!

Welcome to the latest series of Super, Neighbours blog posts where we highlight incredible travel destinations in British Columbia!

As always, Bob starts you off with a "Getting There" post. I was quite excited for this part, several ferries, scenic view, and the end of the road in Lund. Or beginning, however you look at it.

Bob always likes to look for Grant Lawrence's book Adventures In Solitude while on the ferries, and so do I. This one made me laugh. Funny thing is that I'd be doing what Grant calls the Cannonball Run between all the ferries, as we were traveling the same route to Desolation Sound.

First up: Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal!

Horseshoe Bay is such a beautiful little town and it's great that you can walk from your car and get some coffee while you wait for your ferry...then you see things like THIS:

That dog is way too cool.

Anyways, on to the ferry. I love taking them, you can see so much along the way. There were reports of orcas but we didn't spot any. I have seen dolphins in the bay before and it was magical. Gotta say, I LOVE BC FERRIES!

LAND HO!

First of many ferries of our trip, we end up at the Landale Ferry terminal...

If you take a short detour over to Gibsons you can see the filming location for The Beachcombers.

Next stop was in Madeira Park for a great lunch along the Sunshine Coast, but more on that delicious food later!

After this we did a hike to see the Skookumchuck Rapids and then headed to our first destination, the West Coast Wilderness Lodge…I shall show you those in future posts, but here is the rest of the journey up and back down the Sunshine Coast Hwy that we took!

Another ferry zig-zagging through beautiful coastline!

And wouldn’t you know, we landed in Saltery Bay to sunshine!

Now it was off to Powell River…

We took our time and walked around and stopped in at an awesome bookstore called Breakwater Books, then we picked up lunch and headed out to find a spot to eat!

There are so many very nice and beautiful places just off the road to stop and eat your lunch (and make friends with nature…) which is exactly what we did!

Then finally after driving the last little stretch you reach the end of the road!…or, the beginning. Whichever way you see it…you’re in Lund, BC!

(We arrived the day before spot prawn season started!)

Day Two’s journey ended here…with a zodiac ride (amazing)…dinner at the Boardwalk Restaurant and an overnight at Desolation Sound Resort. All of which you’ll see in a future posts…

The Journey home was two enjoyable and smooth sailing ferry rides and sunny skies, proving the Sunshine Coast does live up to it's name.

Home once again. Come back next week and see more from our journey up the coast!
