#InTheVillage on False Creek Part 20: Eyes on London 2012

The Village on False Creek Welcome to In The Village on False Creek, a unique project inspired by Live@YVR and 365 Days of Dining. I've moved my family into this community with my mission being to showcase the myriad of things that make it awesome by bringing you a weekly scoop!

A few days back I published THIS piece about the family-friendly event that Creekside Community Centre in the Village was putting on. My 3-year-old son and I went down on Saturday and participated, messing around on the badminton court, doing some Olympics-themed colouring with crayons, jumping in a bouncy castle and checking out a bunch of other stuff that was set up near the big bird sculptures in the public square. The fencing demonstration was particularly awesome!

It got me excited about the London Olympics and it also got me reminiscing about 2010 and the Winter Olympics that Vancouver hosted, and for which this entire neighbourhood was built for! Olympic legacies can be seen at every turn (in fact you can see the 2010 Medals sculpture behind the fencers in the above photo, as well as the building that houses Canadian Sport Centre Pacific which trains and supports many of our Olympic athletes) and the entire Village will be buzzing over the next couple of weeks as Canada wins more medals (we got a bronze today in women’s three-metre synchronized diving, in case you're not paying attention!). Come down and watch the Games on the flatscreens at Tap & Barrel as well as the lounge in our Urban Fare.

Also, stay tuned as my next In The Village post will take you inside Tap & Barrel and their super-high-tech wine cellar!
