The Village on False Creek Welcome to In The Village on False Creek, a unique project inspired by Live@YVR and 365 Days of Dining. I've moved my family into this community with my mission being to showcase the myriad of things that make it awesome by bringing you a weekly scoop!

The Tap & Barrel restaurant in the Village on False Creek opened their doors a little while back with a soft launch (REMEMBER?) and everybody around here has been anxiously awaiting the grand opening party that happened last night at One Athlete's Way.

A VIP reception was held early in the evening attended by a couple hundred people including the likes of Mr Brian Jessel of Brian Jessel BMW, city councillors Andrea Reimer and Raymond Louie, park board commissioners Sarah Blyth, Nikki Sharma and John Coupar, Richard Wolak from Vancouver Foodster, Marc Smith from 30 Day Adventures, Cynnamon Schreinert from London Drugs, sommelier and V.I.A. writer Kurtis Kolt, and my neighbour Dave Pettit who does the voiceovers for the new TV show, Highway Through Hell. And those were just the people I talked to.

Dawn Chubai from Breakfast Television presented the ribbon cutting ceremony which included Councillor Raymond Louie (who is Deputy Mayor for the month!) talking about how great the neighbourhood is and commissioner Sarah Blyth dropping a knowledge bomb that most probably don't realize: because the restaurant is in a city-owned building, every time you eat there you are helping to fund programs in the community centre that's attached. Tap & Barrel owner Daniel Frankel ended things by talking about how sustainability is a focus in their business and then gave credit to his employees who were treated to uproarious applause.

Then councillor Raymond and Daniel Frankel cut the ribbon making things official!

The best part of the night (for my 3 year old date anyway) were the shrunken down versions of Tap & Barrel's pretzel dipped in their infamous mustard. Come down and check out the pretzels and the PB+J burgers and stay for the beer and one of the best views of our city! They've got a lock on both.
