PR guru Adele Tetangco is best known for her previous gigs at Dace Clothing and Blank Communications, but after recently giving birth to baby number two, she has embarked on a brand new project. A Size Too Small is a carefully curated collection for little tots and fashion lovers in the making. I chat with Adele to discuss the online shop and what we can expect from the line.

Valerie Tiu: You have been working in the Public Relations industry for some time now, having previous jobs with Dace and Blank Communications - what made you decide to start your own venture?

Adele Tetangco: Well, I started A Size Too Small with Belinda Chan - she used to work at Dace as well. We both really wanted to work on a project together that we could call our "own". The kid's stuff is so cute, we just couldn't resist.

VT: How did you come up with the concept for A Size Too Small? Who wears it?

AT: We both thought it would be cool to showcase items for kids that we'd want to wear and use for ourselves. My general rule of thumb: never dress your kids in something you wouldn't want to wear yourself.

VT: What is the inspiration behind A Size Too Small?

AT: Hmmmm...If you're talking about the overall design of the shop, we really just wanted it to be clean but still quirky.

VT: Every item on your online shop is hand-picked. What is your process in selecting these pieces? What elements do you look for?

AT: Basically, we only pick things that we'd want to wear ourselves. This is probably why most of the items we have are grey and black.

VT: Can you talk about your vintage "found" items and consignment program?

AT: We are thrifting whores, that's all. So we thought it would be fun to start "Found" - our collection of "found" goodies. We're always looking for items and have a couple friends looking for us as well. Our consignment program is simple; people interested can contact us via email at info@asize2small.com. We will ask for photos of the items and sell them under our Found section. The only thing is, we're really picky.

VT: A Size Too Small brings adult-styled clothing to the littler set, perhaps sparking an interest in style at a younger age. Can you describe your own favourite childhood fashion memory?

AT: My fashion sense when I was a child was horrible! Maybe I'm trying to re-live it though this site.

VT: Is your child a fan of fashion, like yourself?

AT: Yes, she is. I'm a little afraid that I created a monster. She has started blogging for A Size Too Small. Once a month she will post about her styling picks. Here is the link to the one she did for back to school.

VT: Can we expect to see A Size Too Small in Vancouver stores in the future?

AT: We love a good Pop Up shop, so yes - I'd say so.

VT: Where are your favourite local hangouts for you and your kids?

AT: We like going to Chapters and reading books. We do this a couple of times a week.
