The Village on False Creek Welcome to In The Village on False Creek, a unique project inspired by Live@YVR and 365 Days of Dining. I've moved my family into this community with my mission being to showcase the myriad of things that make it awesome by bringing you a weekly scoop!

Every day on my commute from The Village I am blessed by the sights, sounds and smells of Southeast False Creek. As reported in the Straight recently, herring hadn’t been seen in the waters adjoining this former industrial area for many years due to contamination but have recently made a return. Habitat Island in the Village (designed by our friends at PWL Partnership) has been credited for helping to increase the health of the water and bring back the populations of herring, and some have even speculated that these herring were what attracted that while a while back.

Lately I've been seeing hundreds of thousands of the herring returning to the ol' Creek, and with them come herons who cherrypick them off of the logs in front of Science World. They've been a familiar sight for me every day recently, and I absolutely can not get enough of them.
