2009 VHF Hotdogs for Heritage

Vancouver Heritage Foundation has experimented with a variety of fun successful events over the years, like our popular Hot Dogs for Heritage and Salvage Sale.  So, at our biggest annual event of the year this Sunday, June 2nd from 10am-5pm, the Heritage House Tour, we are once again putting the fun in fundraiser by hosting our own "mini fair" . Tour-goers will have the chance to learn from experts about a fascinating array of historic, practical and modern-day aspects of built heritage.

The 2013 tour was the perfect opportunity to host this fair, as for the first time ever, we found a cluster of 5 houses in the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood all within walking distance of each other. These 5 homes will open their doors for the tour, and then one generous homeowner has agreed to host the mini-fair with by-donation hot dogs and cold drinks (11am-2pm)  in her very own backyard. How's that for neighborly! All donations will go directly to VHF programming.

So who's going to be at the Heritage Info Fair? Grandview Heritage Group's Jak King, will be on site to talk history and heritage of the neighbourhood, fresh off of their City of Vancouver Heritage Award for Advocacy. Buntain Insurance, a family run business since 1967, can answer any and all of your house insurance needs, and specifically about heritage houses. Ever wonder about knob and tube electrical wiring? For those looking for an accurate risk assessment of your building's electrical system, speak to Brian Cook of Powercheck Electrical Inspection Service. Learn about energy audits which lead to affordable strategies to your building's energy efficiency, with Red Door Energy Advisors. They can help assess what investments best fit your home. Lloyd Cutting "The Mudslinger" (lath and plaster restorer), H & S Carpentry's Ian Shapcott (historic window restoration), and Victorian Custom Stained Glass 's Howard Robins, will all have demos and interactive displays for you to learn from and be able to answer your questions. And for those of you looking to paint their buildings in VHF's  True Colours Palette, Vanglo Sustainable Construction Group will be at the mini-fair to share their expert painting tips. You could spend a whole day just learning from this great group! Don't forget to actually get inside and tour the houses too.
