EXCLUSIVE: Honda Celebration of Light Fireworks Judging panel announced!

If you've been following our blog for a while then you're familiar with the fact that since 2010 I've represented V.I.A.

If you've been following our blog for a while then you're familiar with the fact that since 2010 I've represented V.I.A. on the judging panel for the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks competition that lights up English Bay for a few wonderful nights each summer. Around this time every year I take great pleasure (and pride!) in announcing the folks who will be joining me in the most enjoyable and rewarding volunteer gig I've ever taken on.

This year's judging panel is made up of:

Councillor Raymond Louie (head judge) from the City of Vancouver

Sonia Sunger from Global

Nasir Kumradin from Honda Canada

John Nicholson from the West End BIA

Bob Kronbauer from Vancouver Is Awesome

Matt Meehan from Concord Pacific

And in case you missed it, the competitors and their dates:

UK: July 27th, 2013

Canada: July 31st, 2013

Thailand: August 3rd, 2013

"How do you even judge fireworks, anyway?" was a question I answered back in 2010 when I was first brought on to the panel, and though the scoring has changed a little bit over the years THIS BLOG POST outlines the basics of how we declare a winner. Here's one of the actual sheets from my judges manual for this year, outlining what is worth what:

We're going to be announcing a giveaway soon where someone will win a free dinner at the Keg and then will make their way over to exclusive seating for the fireworks in English Bay. Stay tuned!
