Oh the places a stress-induced eye disease will take you!

Some months back I introduced you to an experiment that I've embarked on called Freewheelin Fridays. The idea: on at least one Friday of every month instead of commuting to our downtown office I drive somewhere fairly remote but still within LTE range so I can work not under fluorescent lights but under the light that mother nature provides. I've done this about ten times now, and you'd be surprised how much I actually get done. Without distractions I'm able to hone in on tasks and really nail bigger projects. I stay on top of my emails and don't find myself chasing anything down Youtube/Facebook/Twitter rabbit holes. I get it done out there! In parks, near bodies of water, at picnic tables and (lately) in a lawn chair.

What I didn't tell you is that recently my stress-induced eye disease came back, and that's a big part of the reason I'm doing this - to reduce my stress while still getting things done. It's called Central Serous Retinopathy and I spoke about it in THIS TALK I gave at Creative Mornings.

A couple weeks back our friends at TELUS made it a little bit easier for me; they hooked me up with this Sierra Wireless AirCard (pictured in my hand in our office, below). It's a Mobile Hotspot on its own. That's all it does. Instead of tethering from my phone I just keep this in my bag and when I need to work remotely I pull it out, turn it on and BOOM: super fast internet.

Thanks TELUS for hooking this up, and thanks to all of our readers, contributors, editors, partner organizations, advisors, advertisers, and anyone who supports V.I.A. in any way whatsoever. I am so grateful to have a dream job as the president and editor-in-chief of this Awesome ship, and even though keeping up on it all can at times be overwhelming the support from everyone in our community, and the difference people tell me we are making, makes it worth it. You are awesome.
