Day 3 of the Local Food Challenge in support of Growing Chefs is done! For this recap I'll be featuring a couple of snacks and dinner. So when I got home from work I was pretty hungry and knew dinner would take a little while. I still had some "Seriously Seedy" bread left from Purebread so I cut a couple slices and made one sweet and one savoury.

The sweet slice was topped off with my favourite jam ever ever ever, strawberry with black pepper by Missing Goat. So much happiness in that one jar. The savoury slice was spread with Pâté Pastiche, a locally made seed and grain pâté.

The pâté comes in four flavours: Market Herb, Forest Mushroom, Sunshine Tomato, Golden Squash & Sage. My favourite out of the bunch is the squash one (I guess I really love squash). Spreading this over a warm piece of bread is heaven. Perfect pre-dinner snack!

For dinner I decided to make myself some grilled cheese and just a big ol' salad. In this grilled cheese I included some caramelized onions, fig jam from Okanagan Falls, and a limited edition Otlu Peynir featuring seasonal garlic scape from Little Qualicum Cheeseworks. Be still my cheese loving heart...

I wouldn't recommend this cheese so much for grilled cheese as I found out it doesn't melt that well. I'll stick with my Qualicum Spice flavour next time. As for my side salad, I really need to use up all these veggies in my fridge so I roasted some cauliflower, cut up some radish, cucumber, carrot, and greens from Local Garden, and scarfed it down. Feeling pretty good about my veggie intake for this challenge...

Stay tuned for Day 4 tomorrow!
