Today in Vancouver, Vans celebrates the grand opening of a brand new retail store location—a first for the city—and have brought a couple of special guests with them to party. Joining the throngs of Vans diehards and curious onlookers alike, legendary ripper John Cardiel and celebrated Vans artist Greg “P-Nut” Galinsky will both be in attendance in their own special way.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a skateboard-shaped rock for the last two decades, you will likely understand the significance of John Cardiel to the world of skateboarding. To give you an idea, in 1992 he was named Skater of the Year by Thrasher Magazine, joining the only two previous legends/winners: Tony Hawk and Danny Way. If for some reason you’re still not sure, just listen for the "All Hail Cardiel" chants echoing down Granville St. and see how excited people will be to see this man. Cards probably won't be skating too hard on this trip, but he will be throwing down on the 1s and 2s as the official deejay of the grand opening.

Joining John for this occasion, is Vans artist Greg "P-Nut" Galinsky. P-Nut's been in the game for a while now and has done a lot of work with Vans, but also Quicksilver, Levi’s and Volcom. Our favourite memory though has to be when he joined Color Magazine back in 2010 for a roadtrip with 10 of the skateboard industry's most prolific graphic designers and artists, in a feature called, One Way or Another.

P-Nut will be in the house handing out custom designed hats to the first 100 customers, so make sure you get down early and cop one of these rare gems for your collection.

The Grand Opening goes down at 772 Granville St. from 2-5pm.
