New independent bookstore @ThePaperHound opens! Yes, OPENS (not closes, as you may be used to hearing)

Maybe you've heard the buzz, or walked by 344 West Pender in the last few weeks since The Paper Hound opened their doors? This brand new used bookstore is the product of two former Mcleod's employees who decided to go it on their own.

They point out that they don’t specialize in one particular kind of book, but "favour the curious, unusual, beautiful, visually arresting, scholarly, bizarre, whimsical, and classical.". Upon my first visit I was, of course, drawn to the Vancouver section, and what did I find?

I found an original hardcover copy of Who Killed Janet Smith, a title which had been re-issued last year as a part of the City's 125 Legacy Books project where they brought back into print important Vancouver books that had been OOP for years. I'd been collecting the original versions of each of these 10 books and this is one of the only ones I hadn't yet found. Yoink! Thanks, Paper Hound!

Upon my second visit I found an original copy of Now You're Logging by Bus Griffiths. Similarly, Harbour Publishing had recently re-issued the 35th anniversary edition of BC's first ever graphic novel. It's almost as thought they knew what I was looking for and had them sitting on the shelf, baiting me. Seriously. If you're a book nerd, this is you new spot.

Visit the Paper Hound at 344 West Pender and follow their Tumblr and Twitter. You'll find yourself finding things that might've otherwise been lost in piles of books forever.
