Local book lovers and A Good Book Drive supporters HootSuite and Arc’teryx took their pledges to the next level by hosting friendly internal competitions that will guarantee some great new books for young readers and a special, perhaps delicious, treat for the donor and their team.

Inspired by their innovative approach, the folks at A Good Book Drive thought they'd share some tips on how you too can share this experience with your coworkers and commune over your love of reading.

Here are some tips for running your own office A Good Book Drive:

1) A little setup: Set aside a “donation” area for staff to drop off their brand new books, complete with a pile of bookplates so that donors can share their stories.

If you’d like a stack of bookplates delivered to your office, contact the AGBD team at hello@agoodbookdrive.comtweet them, or leave them a message on Facebook and they'll arrange to get them to you.

2) A friendly email: Send a friendly email to staffers telling them a little bit about the Drive and this year’s recipient (make your life easy, copy their words here). Invite everyone to drop off their books at the designated area and enter the draw.

3) A fun draw: To keep the competition friendly, have employees drop their name or card into a hat (bowl, receptacle, what-have-you) to be entered into  a draw for a special prize for them and their entire team. The promise of treats or some kind of edible is a proven win for all!

4) A celebration of book love: On the final day of the giveaway (recommend A Good Book Drive end date November 30, 2013) host a gathering to draw the name of the winner. For the love of sharing great stories (and bonding over books), consider reading out some bookplates story-oke style too.

A Good Book Drive is an annual book drive to bring stories to a new generation of readers, and support kids in need of new books. Running through the month of November, A Good Book Drive will be inspiring Vancouverites to purchase a new copy of their favorite kids’ book and deliver it to set locations throughout the city. At these drop off locations you can personalize your donation with a special bookplate, sharing the story of why that book is special to you. All books will be donated to this year’s book drive recipient, Frontier College Waiting Room Literacy Pilot Project.
