This holiday season we've partnered with our friends at Granville Island on a series of videos (hosted by yours truly), where we'll be sharing some of the most awesome stuff happening down there.

This holiday season we've partnered with our friends at Granville Island on a series of videos (hosted by yours truly), where we'll be sharing some of the most awesome stuff happening down there. While we were filming I learned a TON about this gem of False Creek so over 12 days we're also bringing you inside with a series of blog posts.

While on the Island I had the great pleasure of meeting with Masa, the founder of Artisan Sake Maker. In 2009 he embarked on a quest to grow organic rice in the Fraser Valley of BC, marking it the first sake rice production in Canadian history. It's now also the most northerly rice production region in the world.

Pictured above is the FIRST of Artisan Sake Maker’s (ASM) REGIONAL OSAKE SERIES made from 100% organically grown BC sake rice, making it the FIRST CANADIAN/BC LOCAL SAKE. The rice was first harvested from their 2-acre rice field in Abbotsford in October of 2012.

They also make a sparkling sake (above) as well as all types of other kinds of products made from the byproduct of sake - a substance called sakekasu, which is essentially the leftover rice that gets filtered out in the production. Go in for a tasting and they'll tell you all about it!
