Holidays are fast approaching and office party season is already here! Impulses to eat to excess (ooo! cheese plate!) and then nestle into a food coma are high...but we have some tips (thanks to Ella from Barre Fitness for these) on holiday eating!:

"Before you head out for the evening have a mini pre-meal consisting of your favourite healthy snacks (eg. salad, green smoothie, yogurt ) Doing this will prevent you from filling up on unhealthy treats and snacks at the holiday party."

"At a holiday buffet? Portion control is key. Fill at least half of your plate with dark leafy greens and vegetables and have a small portion of protein, and whole grains. Choose grilled or steamed options over sautéed or deep fried items."

(The girls at The Vegan Project [who also run our Veggie Option column] have an awesome recipe book with tasty, healthy vegan food for the holidays - grab it HERE)

"Indulge but do not go overboard! You can have you favourite holiday treats, but be mindful of your servings, a small taste can go a long way. Eat less - savour more!"

"This one is good from Canadian Living: At a cocktail party, hold your drink in your right hand if you are right-handed (or left hand if you’re a lefty): It will make it more difficult to reach for food on impulse."
