Every month we feature a kitty or two who are looking for their forever home. Today we have a beautiful calico from VOKRA!

VOKRA does not have a shelter; they provide over 300 individual foster homes which helps to protect the very young from colds, distemper, parasites and other transmissible illnesses. In a home environment, cats are safe and well socialized, with lots of love and attention.

VOKRA also has an extensive TNR program, which means they trap, spay/neuter, and work with community cats to control the homeless cat population.

Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) is a no-kill, non-profit, registered charity dedicated to the rescue of cats in the Lower Mainland that is run entirely by volunteers with no paid staff.

MAMA

mama

Rescued from the streets while trying to look after her two tiny kittens, Mama knows all too well how good she has it now. At the time she was whisked away from the harsh outside, she was timid and fearful so she was placed in one of VOKRA's barns; a kind of halfway house for cats who are not domestic to be in a home, yet who are not fully feral adults. In the barn Mama would happily accept treats from patient volunteers, but it wasn't until she contracted a nasty paw infection that she learned the full extent that caring people are willing to go to keep her healthy and safe.

Mama is now in a foster home, awaiting a quiet and peaceful forever family with people she can purr and chirp with who will give her treats and belly rubs. She loves to play with string, and is well trained to keep her claws off furniture. Her fosters report that she doesn't even attack knitting yarn after being told not to.
