Vancouver on the Cheap: Nerd Nite

If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap".

If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap". In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome.Got a cheap-living tip you'd like to share? We all know that nerds are the new black these days - it's never been cooler to be dorky. Vancouver has a pretty vibrant nerd scene as it is, but now there's a fantastic addition to the mix: Nerd Nite at Cafe Deux Soleils. Already a thing in other cities, Nerd Nite is a fun evening of talks on all sorts of nerdy topics, and it's only $5! Not a bad deal for a night of laughing and learning. The third Wednesday of every month, the next one up is on April 16th, with talks "The Seedy Side of Plants", "Sex and the Singularity", and "On Being Scientific Literate… Particularly as it Relates to Unicorns". So, pretty much, the most pressing things you never knew you desperately needed to learn about.

ALSO! Last week I got to go on The Weather Network's morning show with Arda Ocal to talk up cheap things to do in Vancouver. We hung out in Queen Elizabeth Park from 6:30-7:30am and chatted about some of my favourite cheap things to do in the spring. Top hits included disc-golf (also known as "frolf" for Seinfeld fans) at Queen Elizabeth Park, Karma Teachers yoga, Hot Art Wet City, Geeks vs. Nerds (feature to come!), and an old classic, Bon's Off Broadway.

Looks like I might be back on again in the future, so keep watching The Weather Network in the mornings to see some VIA action!
