Janee

Name: Janee

Tell me about your bike: His name is... Georgie. I painted him because he was an ugly sort of burgundy, now he's black with white leaves and flowers.

Where are you headed?

Just coming back from work. I take 10th Ave every day on my way to work.

How long have you been a cyclist for?

6 years - mostly since I moved here from Edmonton. I used to bike only in the summers there.

What do you like about biking in Vancouver?

I like the amount of people who bike. It's nice to be part of the big community that does it. It's more fun when there are lots of people.

And is there any part of Vancouver that you like cycling in most?

I'd have to say the seawall going from Science World to Granville Island. It's really beautiful there.

Is there anything about riding in Vancouver that you would like to see changed?

I guess just more routes that are blocked off from cars, because I think that would encourage more people.

Is there anything that you are looking forward to most about the summer?

Just riding to the beach, that's all I can ask for.

Are you ever worried about your bike being stolen?

Depends on where I am, but really the place that I have heard about the most break in's is the bike garage in my own apartment building. So now I bring my bike directly into my apartment.

And I noticed that you are not wearing a helmet today. Do you think that the law regarding helmet regulations should be changed?

I think that if you are above the age of 18 it should be your choice whether you decide to wear a helmet or not. If you are not riding on a busy road I think it's safe enough.

I personally wear mine because I feel more safe with it on.

I actually feel less safe because I can't see properly around me, like I can't turn my head all the way. But maybe its the wrong size for me.

Is there anything else you would like to say about biking?

I feel that especially for Vancouver, that biking is a great way to see the city. Like riding up the viaduct with the beautiful view and the seawall. And it is really great being about to say hello to all the other bikers around you. There is not as much road rage and it's just a good way to relax on your way to work without all the traffic. Plus it gets me there in almost half the time.
