In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome. |
Our friends at The Firehall Centre for the Arts continue in their quest to offer affordable dance and theatre to the world! Last night was the launch of the Dancing on the Edge Festival, running until July 12th, and the festival features several by donation performances. First there are Dusk Dances at Portside Park, featuring performances from some of my personal favourite local dancers (hello Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg). Dance Machine is a sort of installation-art-meets-dance-show, wherein locals Battery Opera have actually built a dance machine -- what does that mean? Guess you have to find out -- that dancers play with. There is also Vertias.trUth at the Woodwards Centre and the always titillating Wreck Beach Butoh featuring a bunch of dancers in the buff. In the Firehall courtyard you can also check out Crumbling and Feast for whatever you can afford to pay.
