This last week was an extraordinary one. So many little stories, details, people, places and memories. It was the first week of the Chefs for Oceans journey.

I was overwhelmed constantly by emotions I felt all week - everything I thought I knew of Newfoundland turned out to be true. They are the same as us. East coast or west, the people, communities and fisherman are much the same. We strive to cherish our past, protect our today, and dream about our tomorrow. What's old is new, what we grew up with we want to nurture and save. Wild land based aquaculture, local and seasonal. Family, communities, oceans, rivers, brooks and lakes are part of our history. As Canadians we need each other to succeed and survive.

Our country was discovered, became famous around the world and was founded with our fish. The cod. And salmon.

Salmon in the east, wild Atlantic salmon is incredible.

Salmon in the west, our five wild species are equally incredible.

Let's cherish them all, in their place, on our plates, delicious and in our bellies.
