I went on a media tour of Hootsuite's newly opened HQ2 office this morning. Located two blocks from their HQ1 in Mount Pleasant the design of their new space encompasses so much of what there is to love about British Columbia. It's mostly meant to mimic a skiing village in the summertime, and I imagine it'd be a wonderful environment to work in.
Interesting to note that the largest boardroom in the place (pictured below) is named Silver Star - the name of the local ski hill in Vernon BC where CEO Ryan Holmes grew up.
Much like their HQ1, most of the working environment is open air but there are a bunch of smaller nooks, mini boardrooms and even a library for when employees need just a little more privacy or quiet.
Keeping with open air though, there are a bunch of tables placed around for impromptu meetings. Those structures are all different boardrooms.
The Sunken Lounge might be the most comfortable of places to take a laptop and get stuff done.
And of course the lunch room is spacious, has a stage for noon-hour inspiration sessions and talks, and has wine and beer taps for Friday afternoon socials.
However as nice and comfortable and as cool as this space is, we're reminded at more than one turn that if you hope to work here because there are bean bag chairs in the lounge and taps in the kitchen then it might not be the perfect place for you. However if you're drawn to Hootsuite because you see it as an exciting opportunity to work in collaborative environment at an exciting company during a time when they're seeing incredible growth, well then this might be the place for you.
And you're in luck, because they're opening the doors of BOTH of their offices in August for a hiring fair! I'm probably not the first person to tell you that when it comes to getting a job it's sometimes all who you know, so take the opportunity to get your face in front of the hiring folks at Hootsuite. They receive 500 resumes per week (PER WEEK), and there may be no better opportunity for you to get face time with people making decisions.
They're bringing on 154 new employees in the next 3 months. So as they say in the outhouse that doubles as a small meeting room at HQ2, do it or get off the pot!
