It was hard not to get choked up listening to Bill Good's last show on CKNW 980AM this morning, which had a sort of "This is Your Life" theme as legions of people who have been a part of his show over the last 26 years popped in to offer their best wishes. His producer Jessica Gares lined up more politicians, journalists and friends than you can imagine for a fun-filled send-off to this legendary talk radio host who recently announced his retirement. During the show he mentioned one of the things Bill Good Sr told him which stuck was "Do you homework, and listen", and that's really been a hallmark of what he's done on CKNW. He was always fair, balanced and without bias, and - if I might write myself into this - his show is one of the things that my father and I have in common. We don't agree politically but we have both loved listening to Bill's show over the years. Marsha Lederman did a must-read Q&A with Bill for yesterday's Globe and Mail which is in the link in her tweet below. To add some context, Marsha's husband is Bill's peer, talk show radio host Stephen Quinn of the CBC. Further context (that she tweeted to us): Marsha herself hosted a radio talk show for years in Toronto, also for Corus. Here's what a few local folks had to to say this morning on Twitter. Near the end of the show Mike Harcourt came on and they exchanged barbs before Bill said that he hopes he's as good at being retired as Mike is, insinuating that he'll be working beyond his time at CKNW. He'll be missed on 980AM but hopefully we'll see good news soon about where he ends up... beyond his patio with a martini, of course. Best wishes, Bill! Thanks for being one of Vancouver's most awesome.
