Did you know that Vancouver has been home for the filming of critically acclaimed and classic films throughout the years? There's a reason why we're dubbed "Hollywood North". The city has served as the setting for some major films with its diverse mix of metropolitan and mother nature settings. Below are the top 3 films you may not have known were filmed in this city:

1) Jumanji (1995)

Starring a very young Kirsten Dunst and the late Robin Williams, this classic film that enriched all our childhoods (and adulthood) is about a magical board game that releases a man trapped for decades along with a flood of danger and that can only be stopped by finishing the game. You can spot out Maple Ridge Water Park and parts of Lynn Headwaters in the film!

2) Juno (2007)

The quirky and sweet film starring Michael Cera and Ellen Page was filmed throughout Metro Vancouver, including Eric Hamber Secondary School and South Surrey's Athletic Park track.

3) Rumble in the Bronx (1995)

Yup! This classic Jackie Chan film had Vancouver substituting as New York. The film is often made fun of for trying to disguise itself as NYC when Vancouver's mountains are constantly looming in the background. One of Jackie Chan's stunts also takes place in the Woodward's parking lot and him diving across to a fire escape.

With this new found knowledge, you're invited to make your dreams of being a filmmaker a reality! Have you ever had an amazing film idea but never had the money to put your idea into action? That's where STORYHIVE comes in.

STORYHIVE is passionate about inspiring local voices and vision and they are accepting applications RIGHT NOW for their next round of film production grants. The action unfolds on STORYHIVE's social web platform. Content creators apply for $10,000 video production grants and the community votes to decide which projects get funded and played on TELUS Optik™ TV On Demand and social channels.

Unlike most grant programs, STORYHIVE goes beyond having content creators simply submit an application or pitch. The grants are an opportunity to support local creative talent as well as cultivate community by bringing others together to vote on the winners. The winners get to have their work featured on Optik TV to help give them even more exposure and ensure local content remains a staple in our communities.

If you needed a sign to tell you to pursue that idea of yours, this is it! Submissions will be accepted from October 14th to November 3rd.
