"What does Heritage and Character mean to you?" That's what the City of Vancouver's Heritage Action Plan Open Houses asked the public (see photo above). The City of Vancouver's Heritage Action Plan is currently underway and "is a review of the policies and tools used to conserve and celebrate heritage resources". VHF has been actively publicizing opportunities for input on twitter, facebook and VHF's "Understanding the Heritage Action Plan" webpage, to help spread the word about how and where you can have your say and give feedback directly to City staff and consultants working on the project.

Everyone's opinion of heritage and character may differ, but it is becoming increasingly clear that Vancouverites care about our built heritage, which includes character homes as well as formally recognized heritage sites. If you've got a bit of time today, VHF strongly encourages you to go online, take a survey or send an email with your thoughts on heritage conservation in Vancouver. The opportunity to give public feedback on heritage related issues at this scale is rare, and it's a wonderful chance to shape the future of Vancouver.

Today is the last day you can fill out the current survey which asks you to consider:

  • How you feel about the importance of heritage and conserving historic places in Vancouver
  • How you think the City is doing with conserving historic and character buildings
  • How you feel about the draft vision, goals and strategic directions for the Heritage Conservation Program
  • What ways you prefer to encourage conservation of heritage and character homes in: First Shaughnessy District and certain single family zones in Dunbar, Arbutus, Kerrisdale, and parts of Kitsilano and Hastings-Sunrise
