Hot Art Wet City on Main Street launched an exhibition that serves as a brilliant tribute to Canadian Environmentalist David Suzuki who is turning 79 this year.

V.I.A. visited the exhibition on the eve of the opening and discovered an impressive salon style hang of close to 50 artworks. Many of the exhibited artworks celebrate Suzuki's activist role, whilst others present - as Hot Art Wet City says - the man, the myth and the legend.

What is truly awesome about Hot Art Wet City and it's regular rotation of group exhibitions is that, in addition to the diversity of the artists who participate and the amazing range of media, the gallery has a sense of humour in its exhibition programming. With shows featuring internet memes, art inspired by cavemen, cult classic movies and zodiac signs, HAWC has been built up an exciting, challenging and playful exhibition calendar since it opened in 2012.

Even more importantly, HAWC has also created a strong sense of local community.  VIA met with several first time exhibiting artists and other seasoned pros during the opening, everyone was thrilled to be exhibiting, and excited to be a part of the show. Most others visiting the show had already been to the gallery on several occasions, be it for a Yoga Class, a comedy show, an exhibition, an art class, or an artist talk. Hot Art Wet City packs in a myriad of enticing weekly and monthly events.

You go once... you just keep coming back.

Hot Art Wet City's DAVID SUZUKI exhibition is up until April 2.

You can visit the show Wednesday - Saturday from noon-5pm, or by appointment by calling: 604.764.2266.
