If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap".

If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap". In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome.

This Wednesday from 11:30am-1pm in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery, 5,000 gourmet meals will be served up for FREE. Not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, you may still be wondering why anyone would make and give away 5,000 free gourmet lunches. Here's the hook: the meals will all be made out of rescued food, in an effort to highlight how much food is wasted in Vancouver and abroad. Hosted by Feeding the 5000, an organization looking to create solutions to the global food waste and distribution problem, the food will be prepared by culinary students using donated food that otherwise would have been thrown out.
