THOUSANDS of free Wi-Fi hotspots open up in Vancouver

V.I.A. Community Sponsor TELUS made a pretty crazy announcement this week: they've opened up over 8,000 FREE hotspots across B.C. and Alberta, with almost 2,000 of them being in the City of Vancouver proper.

V.I.A. Community Sponsor TELUS made a pretty crazy announcement this week: they've opened up over 8,000 FREE hotspots across B.C. and Alberta, with almost 2,000 of them being in the City of Vancouver proper. For TELUS Mobility customers it's seamlessly integrated into their 4G experience which automatically connects when they're in range, and for those who aren't on their network the service is still free.

The hotspots are located in businesses such as 7-Eleven, Fountain Tire and Vancity credit union as well as venues like BC Place, and they've released a Wi-Fi Finder app that shows you all of the available hotspots near you. I took it for a spin at our office and was pretty stoked on the Augmented Reality feature (pictured bottom right here) which uses the camera on your phone to show you exactly where to go to connect. Download the app in the APP STORE or GOOGLE PLAY STORE and take it for a spin.
