As I was sitting at home in sweatpants tonight I came across this Michael Mann piece which you should spend some time with. In it he breaks down two events that were happening: Dîner en Blanc and its answer, Ce Soir Noir. Favouring neither he refers to Ce Soir Noir as the "Cynical East Van Hipster Edition" of Dîner en Blanc and Dîner en Blanc as "a below average Instagram opportunity at best". If he were to write something quotable about those of us (of which I am lumping he and myself) who tend to stay at home in their sweatpants during these events he might have similarly unflattering things to say, but he spared us.
If you're not familiar with Michael's work with Ion and the Georgia Straight his writing is pointed and pointy and more often than not it's on-point, and the point of my including him and this long-winded introduction is that his piece inspired me to create this gallery of Instagram photos of the semi-opposing forces who were out tonight in black and white.
