Defaced Lao Tzu mural repaired

Remember a couple weeks back when some idiot defaced the much-loved Lao Tzu mural in Chinatown? And how there was speculation that it wasn't going to get repaired because a new building is going up there soon and will end up shrouding it anyhow? Well

Remember a couple weeks back when some idiot defaced the much-loved Lao Tzu mural in Chinatown? And how there was speculation that it wasn't going to get repaired because a new building is going up there soon and will end up shrouding it anyhow? Well we're happy to report that it got repaired yesterday and is looking good!

We were tipped off by Morris Lum who posted this photo below of a recently repaired mural, with an obviously thrilled Maurice Lee who was one of the people responsible for installing it back in 2010.

Morris is saying that the City of Vancouver footed the bill to get it repaired but we weren't able to get through to anyone there to confirm. We called the Chinatown B.I.A. who told us it actually doesn't fall within their jurisdiction, then we called the Strathcona B.I.A. who told us the same thing, and the Lee Association who weren't able to confirm either. It goes without saying that all parties are thrilled that it's been repaired, and when we find out more about how we'll be sure to share them.
