Design Weekend at MOV features Fashion Symposium, Fashion Show and Design Party

The Museum of Vancouver is going to be very busy this weekend with all the events taking place. In addition to everyone checking out the new-ish Arctic Adaptations: Nunavut at 15 exhibition, MOV is hosting three design-focused events.

WIDWhy I Design is a party that is dense with designers. It's your opportunity to mix and mingle with all sorts of designers, from fashion to furniture, information to industrial. Ask them about their inspiration, their process, or what the industry is like in Vancouver. Friday, November 13, 7-10pm. Save $4 on advance tickets.

fashion-symposium-webFashion Symposium is the second annual nationwide gathering of Canadian fashion scholars. Experts from academia and industry, along with collectors and fans, will come together to present and discuss their research in various fields of fashion—including history, material culture, gender, technology, eco-fashion, and urban culture. The symposium will enable participants to present their fashion-related work and encourage in-depth discussion and collaboration through thematic workshops. Saturday, November 14, 10am-5pm. Registration is FREE.

fashion-avante-garde-viaFashion Avant-Garde: Now and Then is a fashion show that juxtaposes current designs against historic garments of the past. Local fashion designers will present their cutting-edge designs, while fashion historian Ivan Sayers will counter with thematic examples from his incredible collection. Saturday, November 14, 7-9pm. Tickets $20 students / $25 adults.
