12 photos from the Reifel Bird Sanctuary

Made up of 300 hectares of wetlands, marshes and low dykes, millions of migrating birds stop to rest at the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary every year.

Made up of 300 hectares of wetlands, marshes and low dykes, millions of migrating birds stop to rest at the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary every year. If you've never been to this refuge in Delta, you might want to fix that this weekend; it's one of the best places in the Lower Mainland for an easy hike with the friends and fam. Ducks, blackbirds, chickadees, swans, geese, cranes, swallows, wrens and even owls can be spotted here, and you can buy bags of seed to feed them on the way in. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids, and is well worth the drive out there, even if you don't consider yourself a 'birder'.

Here are 12 photos and videos from the sanctuary to give you a sampling of what to expect!
