Needless to say we hit it off immediately! Rick has spent two of the last three years writing and producing his latest album called "Malama Ka 'Aina" which means "respect the land" in Hawaiian. I got to preview some of his new songs before the album was released.  A standout was a particularly touching one about someone he knew that drowned after saving another's life - very powerful tune. Rick had just bought a new amplifier before I arrived so I was treated to hearing him play a few tunes on the electric guitar. We ended up downing a number of Jamesons with a ginger mix that I have to say makes a mighty fine drink. All in all a great night getting to know him. Be sure to check out his website for music and tour dates. You can see him play on July 29th at the Kaslo Jazz Festival.
