Vancouver comedy fans rejoice! The 17th Annual Vancouver International Improv Festival returns to Granville Island from October 4 to 8 with over 30 interactive performances to enjoy.

“There is something for all audiences at the 2016 Vancouver International Improv Festival,” said Alistair Cook, Festival Director. “We have One Lions from Calgary with an improvised Samuel Beckett absurdist masterpiece, and Limbo Land from New York performing a solo musical. No matter what your favourite style of comedy is, you’re going to have fun.”

Local improv companies will also be spotlighted at VIIF 2016, including The Darkest Hour with a dark and twisted fairy tale, The Fictionals with a live Ask Me Anything session, and Your Moms revealing the secret joys of motherhood.

This year VIIF will be held at Performance Works and The Revue Stage, with an opening night gala on October 4 and improv workshops being offered October 8 and 9. The festival will also feature two unique groups created specially for VIIF 2016: an International Ensemble with some of the best improvisers in the world, and a Vancouver Ensemble teaming-up some of the finest performers in the city.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these artists to try new forms of improv, and for audiences to see these performers work together,” said Amy Shostak, Vancouver Ensemble director. “These shows will challenge the performers, and the end result as going to be as entertaining as it is surprising.”
