On October 22, local artist and educator, Justin Langlois will host a one-day summit that explores how art can be used as a catalyst to spark the community’s imagination around issues of belonging, trust and social resiliency in urban centres. The event, Mobilizing the Arts for Community Connection and Change, will feature a series of rapid-fire presentations by some of Vancouver’s most dynamic artists and designers.

Following the presentations, the artists will facilitate a series of workshops where the audience will be encouraged to take the lead and help imagine how the arts can be better used to actualize the themes of the summit on a practical level. The summit will wrap up with a peer-to-peer granting session, where some of those solutions and ideas could potentially be funded up to $1500.

Ultimately, the summit is about putting our heads together, dreaming big and attempting to understand just how art can be to make positive changes in our communities. Registration for the event is FREE, but space is limited!

Date: Saturday, October 22 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Participants: Corey Bulpitt, Alex Grünenfelder, Zoe Kreye, Carmen Papalia, Holly Schmidt, Ayotzi 68.

Mobilizing the Arts for Community Connection and Change has been organized by Justin Langlois, Assistant Professor of Social Practice in the Faculty of Culture + Community at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and supported by the Vancouver Foundation, posAbilities, and the Museum of Vancouver.
