Here's what Vancouver's Polar Bear Swim looked like in 1978

New Year's Day 1978 marked the largest throng of gluttons for punishment ever (at the time) to participate in the annual Polar Bear Swim in Vancouver's English Bay.

Cold Record. People have been throwing themselves into icy seas since 1920, and this year marked the largest throng of gluttons for punishment ever to participate in the annual Polar Bear Swim, following the lead of the Pantages family and friends.
